Abstract

This paper carries out a genealogy of critical development theory in relation to Marxism, which has played a dominant role in the field of development study. He traces the complex points of view of Karl Marx himself, to later show the turn made by Leninism, the practice of development in the socialist world, to finally assume the challenge of post-development. Our emphasis is on tensions and contradictions and we do not assume a linear development of a unified theory of critical development.
