Abstract

This review scrutinizes Gabriel Herrera Salazar's work on Maya Philosophy, positioning it as a milestone in the global understanding of regional philosophies. Dussel remarks that Gabriel Salazar dismantles the myth of Maya disappearance, revealing a political reorganization that reinforces communal justice after the decline of major cities. Through an original reading of the Popol Vuh, it identifies an ethical-mythical "hard core" that endures in various myths. Gabriel points out the relationship that exists between wisdom and philosophy. The inclusion of the concept of a "symbolic universe" in the Philosophy of Liberation by the author clarifies the interpretation of the cosmos from a mythical perspective. The critical analysis addresses fetishism. Lastly, the review raises questions about duality and historical conception in Maya thought, emphasizing the philosophical relevance of this new path of intercultural dialogue.
