Abstract
This article addresses the evolution of the economic historiography of gender, from its origins to recent advances. Globally, studies stand out on women's participation in the labor market and gender disparities. In Brazil, the economic historiography of gender investigates the dimensions of women's work, with collaboration between female historians and the feminist movement standing out. In Maranhão, there is the history of female workers, gender inequalities, seeking to value the female role. The relationships between class and gender are also explored. Deepening these studies critically and intersectionally challenges the conception of a universal human subject in historiography. By recognizing women as active historical agents, the historiography of gender highlights that traditional views do not capture the diversity and complexity of women's experiences over time, revealing that women influence events, playing a significant role in them and demanding revisions in established historical narratives.
