About the Journal

How this journal was created

The origin of "Avances en Ciencias Sociales (Advances in Social Sciences)," ISSN 2810-6903, dates back to the year 2022 when it emerged as a distinct section within Revista nuestrAmérica (nuestrAmérica Journal), ISSN 0719-3092. The category of "distinct section" implied working on its contents as if they were part of an independent journal: with its own objectives and scope, its own website, independent peer review processes, and different indexing. In essence, a new journal had begun. It was called a "distinct section" because it was still considered an extension of the journal with possibilities of independence. Its main characteristic was to have a standardized publication format with a fixed structure and brief length, although this restriction was discarded in 2024.

Starting from the second half of 2022, the publications of "Avances en Ciencias Sociales" became independent, and it was established that submissions would be received exclusively through the OJS of "Avances." Its autonomy had already begun despite not having an ISSN that recognized it as a new journal.

By the end of 2022, it was agreed that if the new section found its own audience, then it would be established as an independent journal. It was decided that the deadline for obtaining the new ISSN would be the end of 2023 to coincide with the tenth anniversary of Revista nuestrAmérica; thus, both publications would share a common significant date: Avances en Ciencias Sociales obtains its ISSN in the same year that Revista nuestrAmérica celebrates its tenth anniversary.
