Scope and focus

Objective

Utopía y Praxis Latinoamericana was born as a response to the situation of political conflict that democracy and Latin American society are currently going through. But it is also born as a committed response to the philosophical analysis and historical interpretation of culture and social sciences in the face of the crisis of Modernity. Response that seeks the creation of new actors and scenarios from which unprecedented alternatives for critical theory and effective social change become possible. An answer in two senses: the utopian because every authentic existential project must be framed and defined by the universe of its human evaluations; practice because, unlike the necessary theory, it implies a type of action whose movement is capable of dialectizing the understanding of reality, but also of transforming the subjects that constitute it. With which the notion of praxis leads us back to politics, ethics and, today, to science and technology. It is a response from Latin America, because it is from the Latin American being and thinking that the praxis of our utopian project becomes feasible.

Utopía y Praxis Latinoamericana is aimed at members of the academic world who are involved in research and teaching in the area of political and social philosophy, in the social sciences and humanities, who seek a space for dialogue from critical perspectives.

Evaluation results and publication

The papers had a waiting period of 2 or 3 months, however, due to the large number of articles received between 2018 and 2020, our current response time is 12 months and publication is 18 months.

Plagiarism detection policy

Plagiarism cannot be considered as a mistake of who submits an article for review, but as a crime because it has intentionally concealed the recognition of the authorship of the work and is intended to appropriate the intellectual effort of others for their own benefit. For this reason, Utopía y praxis latinoamericana uses an anti-plagiarism program, which at the moment is Plagiarism Checker X. This program is used when receiving the articles and before any submission for evaluation.

Policy for detecting adulterated and artificial citations (since 2021)

In collaboration with Ediciones nuestrAmérica desde Abajo Ltda. (Chile) we implemented a reference table analysis report called References checker. The analysis reviews the recurrence of citations to the same journal and verifies whether its use is justified or is a bad practice. The analysis allows Utopia y praxis latinoamericana to have a broad perspective of the impact that citations have when considering a period of between 1 and 2 years. The work is a pioneer in the Latin American region at the level of magazines and demonstrates the interest of Utopia y praxis latinoamericana to increasingly improve its editorial management (the report is under construction in January 2021).

Anti-scam policy on website (since 2021)

The explosive growth we have had by further internationalizing our work, reaching distant continents, has also meant a constant cyber attack and scam attempts. In collaboration with Ediciones nuestrAmérica desde Abajo Ltda. (Chile) we implemented TOC checker which is an authentication system in which an unalterable record of the tables of contents of our editions is deposited. This will allow our readers and potential authors to verify what our publications are. This can prevent an author from falling victim to a scam. TOC checker acts as a witness to any security breach. Utopia y praxis latinoamericana is committed to open publications and calls that reach the greatest number of people. For the same reason, and to avoid endogamic material, the publication of people external to our publishing entity is guaranteed, establishing that those who participate in the different councils of our journal cannot publish in it, except in justified circumstances.
